Once you've decided on a specific topic, begin brainstorming the content. Don't worry about being organized at first, just write down everything you can think of that might be included on your pages (try using index cards to record each idea). When you are finished, organize your ideas into a very rough outline. Then decide what kind of additional research you will need in order to expand on areas that are incomplete. Use as many outside sources as possible to gather information on your topic. Go to the library and search for books, magazine articles, newspaper stories and other reference sources for material. Talk to others who are knowledgeable about the subject. You will want to learn as much as possible about your chosen topic before you begin the writing process. Search the web for useful sites to use as resources and reference links. Make a list of sites that are related to your subject, but that give in-depth coverage of something you are merely touching on. These can be incorporated into your pages as links. Once you have gathered all your information, you can begin writing the content that will go into your pages. Use a word processor to write everything out. Stick to an outline! Present the material in an organized and concise fashion. Break your information into sections with clearly defined headings. Be creative but keep to a straightforward style. People won't want to read through a bunch of garbage to get the information they are seeking, so stick to the straight poop! |
