Try to visualize how your main page will look. How much information will it need to contain? You will want it to look balanced and inviting, with enough information so that visitors can quickly and easily know what your site is all about. Usually this will mean a title heading, a descriptive paragraph, and then several short-but-descriptive sub-headings which link to content-filled pages. Sketch out a design for your site. You should carry through the same basic design on all of your pages, to give continuity. Unless you are a graphic artist AND an expert at using HTML, you will want to keep the design very simple. If you use a free web page service such as Homestead, you will be using a simplified editor that will limit your ability to create fancy layouts. If your web page host allows you to upload HTML code, you can use a program like Microsoft Front Page to create your pages. Many monitors can only view pages up to 600 pixels wide, so design your page with this in mind. |
